Three skills I have learnt over the past two trimesters:
1/ How to correctly edit videos to a near professional standard. To make it look clean, professional and to a level and standard that I am happy with as well as proud to show to others.
2/ How to correctly take photos. I have learnt how to use the different frames and angles to capture better images. From rules of third to the types of shot as well as how to use DSR cameras and how to operate the functions on the camera as well as how to use extra equipment such as tripod etc.
3/ How to conduct interviews. I have learnt the steps in how to shoot interviews as well as the different types of interviews and angles. I learnt the importance of sound quality and using the correct frames and angles to capture the interview. I also learnt about the flow of the interview and how it can take several takes to get the best result. I have also learnt the importance of the different roles in interviews from director to sound-man.
Three things I have improved over the past two trimesters:
1/ My Photoshop skills. Since joining college, my Photoshop skills have improved in ways such as correctly using layers and cropping. Also I have improved on using the individual tools and not using the same basic skills I previously knew.
2/ Speaking to the camera and presenting my work in front of the class. Before college, I did not talk much while being recorded. Since college, I have not only gained confidence in speaking while being recorded but also my charisma has improved with better voice expressions but also now with a wider vocabulary.
3/ Being on camera. Again I never really liked being recorded but now due to college I have gained confidence on being visually recorded and interviewed. Cameras no longer spook me and I no longer feel shy, embarrassed or nervous in front of the camera.
The piece of work I am most proud of is the radio practise I did with a fellow classmate. The task was to create a minute and a half radio piece about a topic of our choice, this being Justin Beiber. I did’t have high expectations of the task or the end result however with a few takes that we were both happy with and editing the audio, it came out a lot better than expected.
I believe that editing videos is my strongest skill while being on this course. I feel more comfortable editing audio as I can mainly focus on one thing instead of an interview where you got to focus on both audio and visuals, however I am happy and confident in editing all kinds of media such as audio, video and photographs.
I think the subject I might need to work more on is my print skills. I am happy with my recent tasks that have required however I do feel that I can improve on my sentence structure as well as my vocabulary and spelling.
Over the break, I was thinking about exploring more on the topics of multimedia. Creating another webpage like task to link to other pieces of media that I can also create. This will also hopefully improve on my print skills as well and can make it more interactive. This will also help me improve on skills required by media industry in general. Now days everything is interconnected and the more skills I have will give me better chance for future employment.
